Recently a few folks who happen to work at a news station stopped by our shop. They liked what they saw and thought that we'd be a good fit for a food segment that they run. They asked us to show them how to make something, and we thought we'd share our Candied Orange Peel recipe.

Candied Orange Peel

  • 3 Oranges
  • 2 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup water

Cut up orange peel into uniform slices, reserving pulp for whatever you would like. Put peel into cold water. Bring water to a boil and drain. Repeat process 1 to 2 more times to cut down bitterness of the peels. Mix sugar and water in a large sauce pan. Cook on medium heat until it reaches soft ball stage on a candy thermometer, 230 to 234 degrees. Add peels to sugar mix and cook for 45 minutes. DO NOT STIR after peels are submerged in sugar mix. Drain syrup and let peel rest on racks until cool. Roll in sugar and store in an airtight container. Make sure to save the syrup. It can be used as an orange flavored simple syrup.
